JAMIE (JAMES) ASHTON
Jamie joined Bridge Training as a Motor Vehicle Level 2 student in September 2014. At this time he lacked self-confidence, had not enjoyed his previous education at school and was not particularly sociable. Jamie had previous work experience in a Cheltenham Body Shop and had a keen interest in everything and anything with an engine.
Whilst working through his Level 2 Motor Vehicle course Jamie’s confidence, knowledge and ability with the tools of the trade improved. During his employability sessions we discussed an opportunity for work experience at MD Performance, a specialist high performance car garage based in Gloucester. Jamie was keen and was coached for the interview preparation during by Bridge Training’s Employability team.
Jamie was successful at his interview and started his placement with Dean and the team at MD in November 2014. Jamie progressed well in his first few months, achieving 100% attendance, building positive relationships with his colleagues and demonstrating a natural ability to learn new skills. During monthly placement reviews it was clear that Jamie had a natural ability and his potential was identified by Dean at MD.
After discussions and an interview, Jamie was offered a L3 Motor Vehicle Apprenticeship with Dean at MD Performance through S&B Automotive in Bristol in October 2015.
Before I started at Bridge I wasn’t really doing anything with my life then I found out about Bridge Training and decided to join to complete a Motor Vehicle course with them. When I started I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do with my future but Bridge helped me with my options. They also assisted me to understand my own capabilities and strengths as well as how I could progress further.
During my course I not only learned about mechanics but also life and work skills. I always felt welcome at Bridge as everyone was so friendly and made learning fun. After a little while on my course I was offered a work placement, one day a week, at MD Performance, a high performance car specialist in Gloucester. This was a great opportunity that I did not want to miss out on so I started as soon as I could. I loved it there as the cars I got to work on were amazing, the staff were really welcoming and couldn’t do enough to help me learn some incredible skills on some fantastic cars.
As my course was coming to an end Mark (from Bridge) and Dean (from MD) sat me down for a chat about my future and Dean offered me the opportunity of completing a Level 3 Apprenticeship with MD Performance. I grabbed the chance and am 1 year through my course at S&B Automotive in Bristol. I still love and think that if it was not for Bridge Training or for Dean at MD Performance I would not be where I am today.
